Hey. Luke here. Something a little different today as i’ll be looking at a tie in film to a video game.  As some of you know i’m a huge fan of the Final Fantasy series and was very excited for the most recent entry, Final Fantasy XV. I brought the game and for reasons that I think would be best suited for another post, i’m having trouble getting into it. I’ll try to avoid spoilers where I can

A good friend of mine heard this and lent me the tie in film “Kingsglaive” to see if it could get me back into the game, so lets see shall we?

Kingsglaive has a fairly simple plot. ts story takes place during the events of the games first chapter, and focuses on the king of Lucis, Regis Lucis Caelum CXIII, Nyx Ulric of the titular elite guard and Lady Lunafreya Nox Fleuret of Tenebrae. The Kingsglaive share Regis’s magic to defend the kingdom of Lucis and its crystal from the invading empire of Niflheim. Faced with detrimental conflict, Regis accepts a ceasefire with Niflheim: as part of this treaty, his son Noctis must marry Lunafreya, whose home Niflheim invaded 12 years earlier in hopes of assassinating the Lucian family. However, this is all part of Niflheim’s plan to invade Insomnia and steal the Lucian Crystal that gives them protection for world domination. The plot, as I said, is fairly simple but serves its purpose. The characters are all very standard archetypes and not that memorable except for King Lucis, who is one cool old mother f***** and Glauca, the main antagonist. What I loved in this movie was the fight scenes!

Remember Advent Children? Remember how the best parts of the film was the action? That’s the case here too but up to 11. One of the first scenes is the Glaive fighting serveral Daemons (who are monsters that were summons in previous FF games like Cerberus etc,) and the final battle between Nyx and Glauca is one of the best i’ve seen on film, definitely better than anything in Advent Children.

I wouldn’t say this film is essential to enjoying the game (the events of the film are recapped within a five minute scene in the game) but i enjoyed it and would recommend people to watch if they liked the game. As for whether its got me to play more of the game. Yeah, why not?

Until next time
